This Julefest help turn downtown into an enchanting winter wonderland by renting beautiful living Christmas trees from My Living Christmas Tree Company.
Last year the merchants in downtown Solvang lit up the Danish community with over 100 living Christmas trees and the response was so great, from both customers and shop owners alike, that this year they want to display 200 trees.
The way it works is once the trees have been ordered from My Living Christmas Tree Company they are delivered to a central location on your property where they are then distributed to designated areas. After the trees have been placed each store gets to decorate their own tree(s). Last year in Solvang many merchants decorated with traditional ornaments while others used the opportunity to promote their merchandise. For instance a jewelry store decorated their tree with beautiful color prints of their jewelry, while the candy store hung candy canes for the shoppers to enjoy. An art store created elaborate paper Mache paint brushes as decorations. As an added incentive the Solvang Chamber of Commerce held a competition to choose the best designs. Each tree had a name tag attached so that anyone who was interested could pick up a ballot and vote for their favorite trees. There were more than 10 categories to vote on.
“WE HAVE A BUNCH OF ARTISTS THAT WORK HERE AT THE RESTAURANT AND ONCE WE FOUND OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON WE ALL JUMPED IN WITH SOME VERY CREATIVE IDEAS.
IT’S BEEN A LOT OF FUN.”
Our tree of choice is what many consider to be the world’s most perfect Christmas tree, the Nordmann fir. Because of it’s strong branches and long soft needles that actually caress your arm as you decorate the Nordmann has become very popular in this country. Even though our trees have the conical shape of a traditional Christmas tree they are grown to be planted in the future so they are not sheared like a cut tree which gives them a fuller and more natural look. It’s as if each tree has it’s own personality. And because they’re alive they will stay fresh throughout their visit. Because these are living trees they are for outdoor display only.
